Spinning's been a comfort for me lately. It was something I could do when my left wrist hurt, and it was something I could do with metachaos when she was staying with us.

First, a sad thing. The connector between the treadle and the footman broke, so I had to send off the treadle to be fixed.

Rune liked her new bucket.


I spun up a bunch of Romeldale x Romney wool from Katrina's Wool World that might become a scarf of some sort sometime. It is springy and nice to touch.


I spun up 2 ounces of a 3-ply fingering weight merino (Ashland Bay top in Baltic) just to see if I could. Merino and I have not been the best of friends when spinning. Also spun 4 ounces of 2-ply from the Coopworth installment of the Bare Fiber Club (through Katrina's Wool World) after I got it all carded.


Spun this during iii_demon's family reunion. About 4 ounces Border Leicester from Katrina's Wool World as a 2-ply.


The Fricke Spinners [Ravelry link] had a spin-a-long in July, so my goal was 4 ounces of a 3-ply sock yarn. Fiber is Frabjous Fibers Merino in Redwood.


I finally spun up one of the braids I bought from Spunky Eclectic. I had been thinking about making it into a fingering weight yarn, but the Romney wanted to be spun thicker than that. 4 ounce Romney top in Midnight Run.


Finally figured my skills were good enough to tackle this fiber. It is 4 ounces of New Zealand merino I bought from a lady in Kentucky. I spun it up and chain-plied it in time for Yarn School, when it was gifted to Zabet.


I spun up some small samples of the Jacob fleeces I got at Iowa Sheep and Wool. The sample on the left was combed and the one on the right is carded. I want to do another sampled set and try to spin them finer, since I'd like to make a lighter weight sweater.


Finally dipped into my Maryland Sheep and Wool fiber. This is a lovely little wool and silk blend from Cloverleaf Farms in Blueberries. Not sure what this will become, but it will be mine because it is so squishy. 4 ounces in a 3-ply.


Bought this fiber with The Knitting Pirate at MD S&W this year and finally spun up my share of it. It is a lovely and soft single that I think will become some sort of scarf or wrap in the future. 4 ounces.


This fiber was custom dyed for me by Robyn when I got my wheel. I had such a hard time with merino previously that I didn't want to screw it up. Guess all inhibitions with that are gone. On her suggestion, I stripped it down the middle and spun the singles in the opposite direction of each other so they would mirror each other. 4 ounce 2-ply.


I've had this bag from Fae Ridge Farm waiting around for me, so I finally dived in and spun it up. It is 8 ounces as a single. This should make a good sized shawl or wrap in the future.


And I'm still tackling my pile of Bare Fiber club samples. Since I need to card or comb them by hand, they don't get spun up very quickly. This is a grey/oatmeal Shetland sample that I spun up as a 3-ply. The color seems so much different from fiber to spun yarn. A 2.8 ounce sample.

And.... the Romney is finished! I'll make a comprehensive post about that sometime soon.

I'm hoping to expand my skills in the future. I've got some silk on hand to spin and I'd like to work with linen and cotton, but they are entirely different beasts.

I kind of want to get some more of that Redwood roving and try spinning it up in a different way. It has really long sections of color that could be spun up in interesting ways. :)

The NZ merino was such a delight to work with.
