wrapped in slithering coils

Snake photos! I've been meaning to get around to these for... 2? 3? years. Paul graciously assisted, while Lua tried to pull my shirt off.

(From the back, while she's got the front twisted in her coils.)

She's grown from a tiny little ribbon to be somewhere between 6 and 7 feet.

Then there's the cool tongue flicking action of tiger rats.

(I'm amused at how I seem to be exuding childish glee in this one.)

And here's Rune, restoring the furry balance.

Glad to provide. Now if I can get the rest of the kids out for photographing...

Oh my god she's a beautyyy. How old is she? Its such a perfect size!

[identity profile] starfallz.livejournal.com 2008-05-18 04:36 pm (UTC)(link)
Thanks! She's about 3.5 years. I think she was a late October 2004 hatch, but I don't quite remember. Her daddy is around 8 feet or so, but the males tend to be larger than the females in this species.

*grin* Your title teases. :)

What a beautiful snake!!! Is Lua a sweetheart?

[identity profile] starfallz.livejournal.com 2008-05-18 04:38 pm (UTC)(link)
Not really. She's my most aggressive snake, but most of it when in the enclosure as her species is very territorial. I have to use gloves and a hook to get her out, but after she's out she settles a bit, although she has been known to lunge at others. Her dad, when I handled him, was incredibly mellow, but her mom was known to be rather flighty. I like her, even though my nickname for her is "Queen Bitch". :D

Hah! Man I love tiger rats. I haven't seen many that handleable, though! Beauuutiful girl.

[identity profile] starfallz.livejournal.com 2008-05-18 04:39 pm (UTC)(link)
Yea, I'm pretty much the only person comfortable with handling her. As I noted to Skorzy, she's my most aggressive snake, but it is mostly when she's in the enclosure. Once she's out, she chills out a bit.

:) pretty girl!

Thanks!

Beautiful. It's hard to believe how big she's gotten..

[identity profile] starfallz.livejournal.com 2008-05-18 04:40 pm (UTC)(link)
Yea, snakes can be incredibly deceptive with how small they are when hatched/born. :D (Baby snakes are so cute though!)

[identity profile] rosepurr.livejournal.com 2008-05-18 03:55 pm (UTC)(link)
She's so much bigger than the last time I saw her. Lovely!

[identity profile] starfallz.livejournal.com 2008-05-18 04:40 pm (UTC)(link)
Thank you. :) She's definitely grown in the past year or two.

Purdiest necklace I ever saw.

[identity profile] starfallz.livejournal.com 2008-05-18 04:58 pm (UTC)(link)
She is quite willing to serve as necklaces, bracelets and arm cuffs, with a slightly Celtic flair. :)

[identity profile] starfallz.livejournal.com 2008-05-18 08:00 pm (UTC)(link)
Isn't she a cutie? :D

[identity profile] foolonthehill.livejournal.com 2008-05-18 11:23 pm (UTC)(link)

Yay little orange fluff kitties. :D

Great pictures! I relly like your snake. I like to live through you sometimes.

I hope to get some more of my other snakes over the next few weeks. Maybe bring them out on the back porch before feeding time for some photos.

Love your snake! If I had more space and less kids, I would get one. Even if it did torment my cat!

[identity profile] starfallz.livejournal.com 2008-06-01 04:07 pm (UTC)(link)
She's definitely a handful. I have 3 others as well that I need to get around to photographing. Those three are more docile than Lua here. :D
