You just start knitting. That's the beauty of self-striping sock yarn. (The pattern looks different based on how big your sock is, how small your stitches are, etc.)

Starfallz, I'm knitting a pair of gloves with Knitpicks's merino sock yarn. It's so soft. It's the only wool out there that's not itchy, and even though you can't wash it, it's worth it. Your stitches come out looking beautiful. I really wish they'd add some self-striping yarns, but oh well -- my gloves' fingers are kind of stripey.:)

I'll have to try out some of the Knit Picks merino next time I place an order with them. I was thinking of ordering some WotA to make felted potholders for presents. :) I got a ball of some Lana Grossa stuff when I was in Canada that I'm eager to try next. Thinking of trying a toe up sock.

So, are you doing full gloves or fingerless ones?

Those are so cool! Where didja get the yarn from? I have a friend helping out with a lot of wedding crap and since she crochets & knits, I thought I'd get her some cool yarn as a thank you present. Or even a recommendation for a nifty yarn store in the DC area where I can find some stuff for her would be great. :)

Thanks! I bought the yarn when I took a trip to Peterborough, Ontario.

I know of one nice shop in Rockville, called Wool Winders. It is in the King Farm shops, near the Shady Grove Metro. They have many nice yarns there.

There are a bunch of online shops I could point you to as well. :)

I think that yarn is my favorite so far, out of all the yarns I've seen. Except, of course, for the red alpaca my armwarmers are made of. Mmmmmmm no hives!

Alpaca is the best. :) I got some more sock yarn at Ewetopia when I was there that I'll have to show you pictures of. It is beautiful. :)

Surprisingly delicate, yeah. Also, the best scene in the movie. (Which is its only similarity to the not-at-all-good Legend, which had a thematically similar scene which was likewise the best scene in the movie. I'd say the "only good scene," but Tim Curry's villainy always lifts a film when he's in it - even that one.)
