have you any wool?
14 Jun 2009 08:32 pmAfter much anticipation, this weekend
metachaos,
merryone and I went to the Iowa Sheep & Wool Festival. We bought some fiber and spindles and had some lamb burgers and brats, as you do. And then I went to the Hall of Breeds to visit the Jacob sheep booth to pick up the fleece I had arranged to get.

Bob and Marianne from the Crafts at Bluffton, who we visited before, had brought a few fleeces for me to look at, so we chose three and headed to one of the buildings so we could spread them out over the tables to take a look. After they were all laid out, I was sold on the lovely clear blacks and whites of the wether fleece, but since it was a bit small (2.87 lbs), I agreed to buy the ewe fleece (3.25 lbs) with many shades of grey, just in case. Agreeing to this and bagging up the fleeces, Bob quoted me the price and said he'd throw in the lamb fleece for free. I boggled at Meta a bit on our walk back to the Hall.
So, what I brought home:

I do have to say that Bob and Marianne are extremely nice people.
Just to remind you why I love the Jacobs so:

Today we sorted the colors for washing, so here are the fleeces spread out:

Fleece from the wether Piggly Wiggly.

Fleece from the ewe Gallina.
And here's the lamb's fleece, which Meta will be taking in payment for washing some fleece...
