I heard a yelling outside the window, from the back porch, and I quickly took a look. This fellow was on the neighbors' railing, standing there squeezing a sparrow-sized bird and yelling all the while. I think it is a Cooper's Hawk, based on coloration and behavior.

I do wonder if the neighbor has figured her finch feeder feeds more than finches.

In other news, I am eagerly awaiting a delivery of frozen rodents.

Oh wow, I didn't realize how hard it is to tell the difference between a Sharp Shinned and a Coopers. I just looked it up on the Cornell site and I can't tell which it might be and they both go for birds at feeders. If it turns out to be a regular in the area, I'll try to figure out which it is.

I've seen it once before (assuming it is the same bird), but through some curtains. I'm wondering if it will be a regular since the neighbor has a bird feeder hanging on the porch.

Well, "finch feeder" could be kind of vague... like "seed feeder"... Sometimes I referred to our bird feeder at home as a cat feeder because it was big enough for a cat to hide inside.
