Ah, just reading up on some articles, I shouldn't evaluate the balance of the skein until I've set it. Interesting! So, I could have possibly kept on plying with higher twist.
I'll try wash-and-whack later when I can make noise. I had heard about the technique in application with merino, but I didn't know it was to balance out a skein.
